Title: Member Discussion: Empowering an Aging Nation: Strategic Framework for a National Plan on Aging

The 2022 landmark National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers was introduced as a groundbreaking effort to address the critical role family caregivers play in the nation’s long-term care infrastructure, outlining nearly 350 federal actions and over 150 initiatives from other government levels and the private sector to build a sustainable support system. These measures aimed to ensure that caregivers—who provide essential, unpaid care to millions of older adults, people with disabilities, and children—receive the resources they need to protect their health, well-being, and financial security. Now, more than a year later, significant progress has been made in implementing these actions, as highlighted in the recent Progress Report on Federal Implementation of the National Strategy released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This report underscores the commitment of federal agencies, which have already initiated or completed nearly all the proposed actions, while also committing to an additional 40 new initiatives.

LTQA, with speakers from the Administration for Community Living (ACL), The John A. Hartford Foundation, and the National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP), discussed progress towards implementing the strategy and the recently released RAISE/Grandparent Council Joint Report to Congress.
